Governance Considerations
The following considerations apply broadly to organizations operating in jurisdictions with AI regulation activity. They are informational and should be adapted to each organization's specific context and applicable law.
AI Inventory
Organizations should maintain a structured inventory of AI systems in use, covering tools, providers, use cases, data processed, and risk levels. An inventory is the foundation of any credible AI governance program.
AI Literacy
Staff who interact with AI systems — including business users, operational teams, and management — should have adequate understanding of AI capabilities, limitations, and responsible usage expectations.
Human Oversight
For AI systems that inform or influence significant decisions, meaningful human review mechanisms should be in place. Oversight should be substantive, documented, and supported by appropriate training.
Documentation
Maintaining documentation on AI system purpose, data inputs, testing, deployment context, and governance decisions supports both internal accountability and regulatory readiness.
Data Protection
AI systems frequently process personal data. Organizations should assess the intersection of applicable data protection law and AI governance obligations, and address both in an integrated manner.
Risk Management
A risk-proportionate approach — prioritizing governance effort on higher-risk AI deployments — helps organizations manage AI-related operational, reputational, and compliance risks systematically.
