OECD countries continue aligning around common AI governance principles

AI regulation approaches continue evolving across OECD countries, with governments adopting different legal and policy frameworks depending on national priorities.

However, despite these differences, several common governance principles are increasingly appearing across jurisdictions:

  • transparency,
  • accountability,
  • human oversight,
  • risk-based approaches,
  • data protection,
  • and responsible AI deployment practices.
  • This growing international convergence is helping organizations better structure internal AI governance programs even before detailed local regulations fully mature.

For multinational organizations, this also reinforces the importance of:

  • maintaining AI inventories,
  • documenting AI use cases,
  • implementing governance policies,
  • and monitoring evolving regulatory expectations globally.
  • Although implementation timelines and legal obligations vary by country, AI governance is progressively becoming a strategic organizational topic rather than purely a technical one.
